December 17, 2020 - Our Young Professional Chair, Ashley Ward, organized a virtual holiday happy hour for YPs via Zoom due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The group held an Ugly Sweater contest - see photo below!
December 16, 2020 - We held the Virtual December Brown Bag Webinar, Scholarship Winner Presentations, and Holiday Party on December 16th via Zoom. The topic of the webinar was Detection of SARS CoV-2 in Wastewater to Inform Public Health. See the scholarships page for more information about the winning students. During the holiday party, we enjoyed networking with students and professionals!

October 22, 2020 - Our Young Professional Chair, Ashley Ward, organized a virtual Halloween happy hour for YPs via Zoom due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. There was a costume and spooky drink contest. It was good fun!

July 3, 2020 - Shira Colsky, who is currently serving as a Director for the Georgia Chapter, was selected as the winner of the 2020 Outstanding Young Professional Award. Shira was recognized at the A&WMA 2020 Annual Conference & Exhibition at the Virtual Honors & Awards Ceremony. More information about this award can be found here. June 25, 2020 - The Georgia Chapter was selected as the winner of the 2019 Chapter Cup Award and the 2019 Membership Performance Recognition Winner! Additionally, our Past Chair Steve Ellingson was exclusively recognized for his membership data access efforts. These awards were given at the A&WMA Sections and Chapters Council 2020 Summer Meeting and recognized in the August 2020 Issue of the A&WMA Sections & Council Newsletter, The Conduit. August 8, 2019 - The YP group recently had a joint networking social with young professionals from A&WMA, AHMP, GAEP, and GAWP. Over 60 young professionals met up at Punch Bowl Social to network -- the event was a huge success! The discussions held were great and everyone enjoyed themselves.
December 7 2018 - The Board of Directors and voted and approved the discontinuation of the local associate membership level. The only membership moving into 2019 will be those established and managed by the AWMA international office. Those members whom are currently local associates will retain this status up until their annual member ship expires in 2019. No new local associate memberships will be process moving forward. Please direct any questions/comments to the Georgia Chapter Chair. June 1, 2018 - The YP group recently had a social outing to a local micro-brewery. Over 20 young professionals met and had a good time mingling and sampling the beers produced by Scofflaw Brewing
May 12, 2017 - The chapter just ended another successful regulatory update conference with speakers from US EPA, GA EPD, and consultants reviewing updates to both programs and regulations. All of the presentations are posted on the chapter website in Presentations
November 9, 2015 - I wanted to share a picture from the recent YP brewery event at Orpheus last Thursday (11/5). It was a fun night for all who attended! I Thanks for supporting the YP group. We hope to have more events for YPs/students in the coming year.
August 24, 2015 - WOW! What a great Southern Section annual conference. The speakers were great, the venue was perfect, and everyone declared this year's conference to be a success. If you missed it, the conference presentations will be posted to the annual conference website (http://www.awma-ss2015conference.com/). We hope you can make it to the annual conference next year which will be in MS.
June 1, 2015 - The Georgia Chapter of the A&WMA was recognized with an achievement award for our 2014 operating year. There are only a few chapter and sections in the country whom receive this award. The award certificate can be seen here. Thank you to all of our members whom make the difference for Atlanta AWMA! May 17, 2015 - The Ga Tech student chapter successfully raised $3100 to fund travel for 8 student members to attend the national A&WMA conference in Raleigh in June. Thank you to the local business that contributed to this effort! May 1, 2015 - The Southern Section A&WMA conference site is up and running. We have had a lot of companies step up to become sponsors which is greatly appreciated! We still have exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities available including evening reception and afternoon breaks! April 10, 2015 - The Southern Section Annual Conference has confirmed several other key note speakers and events. The agenda will be posted very soon! Registration is now open for this event. April 10, 2015 - The Georgia Tech student chapter recently received an additional donation from Georgia Power, Shaw, and the Ga Professional Chapter toward travel expenses for a group to attend the national conference. These contributions will go a long way to fund the travel for the student group. March 13, 2015 - The Georgia Tech student chapter recently received a $500 donation from Yamaha toward travel expenses for a group to attend the national conference. Please keep this group in mind if you are able to contribute. February 10, 2015 - The registration portal is open for the annual regulatory update conference. Please go ahead and register so last minute planning can be avoided. More information is listed on the home page of this website. January 21, 2015 - The Georgia Chapter recently was recognized for overall performance as a top performer by the national organization. This Local Unit Recognition is given based on superior membership performance based on membership retention and growth. We were one of 8 chapters recognized throughout the country! January 10, 2015 - The first brown bag presentation for the 2015 year was a great success with over 50 persons in attendance. The new board of directors is excited for the upcoming year and the challenges and rewards associated with hosting the Southern Section Annual conference. December 30, 2014 - The Ga chapter elections are now final and our 2015 officers and Board of Directors are lined up. The list will be updated in the upcoming days and posted on the website under the About Us page. Please also note that new student officers for the Ga Tech chapter have been identified as well! October 16. 2014 - The GA Tech AWMA student chapter just had another successful meeting last Tuesday with a speaker from Alcoa. The meeting last month with Susan Jenkins from GA EPD also went well. The students are currently identifying officers for next year. September 22, 2014 - The 2014 scholarship awards were awarded for the 2014 calendar year with two $1500 scholarships being issued to graduate students Ms. Lu Xu and Mr Lucas Henneman both with Georgia Tech. More information can be found on the Scholarship page of our website. September 18, 2014 - The first GT AWMA student chapter meeting was a huge success! We had over 20 students attend and our speaker, Robert Brawner from One Consulting Group, was very engaging. We are already planning our next meeting in October with another speaker. Also, we created a new Facebook group called Georgia Tech Air & Waste Management Association Student Chapter. There will be more pictures posted there after each event. Thank you again for all of your support in getting our student chapter going! We have been encouraging everyone to register as A&WMA student members online so I hope this is reflected in our new membership numbers. August 30, 2014 - We are pleased to announce that Ms. Karoline Johsnon with the Georgia Tech AWMA student chapter is one of the winners of the two $1,200 scholarships sponsored by the Southern Section - Air & Waste Management Association The scholarship committee was very impressed with your background, your contributions to the environmental profession and your bright future.
August 28, 2014 - I am writing to thank you all for helping out with our spectacular event yesterday! The Georgia Tech AWMA ice cream social was a hit! I think all the students who came (more than 50 stopped by) seemed very interested in joining our organization and we should get great turnouts for our monthly dinner meetings. Looking forward to our first one on 9/16/2014 at 5 pm with Robert Brawner! Take a look at our picture taken at the end of the event!
August 22, 2014- We are pleased to report that we had almost 20 environmental professionals at the Air Update in Camilla, Georgia representing manufacturing, solid waste, consulting and various other groups. I don’t have a copy of the final sign-in list yet, but it was a full house! A big thanks to Golder for the presenters and sponsoring lunch. Moving forward AWMA will alternate months with ASSE to do health and safety and environmental topics. We are focusing on Safety Campaigns in September and hoping to get a tour of the Albany Miller Coors brewery in October. If you have any suggestions for topics, speakers and/or future sponsors, please let us know! August 7, 2014 - It's official, the Georgia Tech AWMA has been officially recognized as student chapter by the international AWMA organization. The student chapter will be having its first meeting on Monday August 11th. Please contact Shira Glabman ([email protected]) if you have any questions, comments, or to show support! August 6, 2014 - The GA AWMA student scholarship applications our now available. Please visit our Scholarship page for more information. May 28, 2014 - The Georgia Chapter of the AWMA was recently recognized by the international organization as a Chapter Cup Award winner for the 2013 calendar year. This recognition is based on various performance criteria including activities and membership. A photo of the award is posted in the photos section of the website. May 14, 2014 - The section website also has a forum board that is accessible to all active members. This is a good place to post information, requests, or job notices. As a matter of fact we recently received a job announcement from Georgia Pacific which is now posted in the forum board. Go ahead and take a look and feel free to utilize this board. May 7, 2014 - The recent 2014 Regulatory Update conference was a big success with over 90 registered participants. Special thanks to all of our EPA and GA EPD regulatory representatives that set aside time to speak and update the audience. A couple of photos of the event and the keynote speaker are posted on the chapter website in the photos page. The funds raised will be very well used toward our annual student scholarships! April 15, 2014 - Two new events have just been posted to the website, one is a Ga Tech Student Chapter Coffee Hour and the other is a social networking event with the Georgia Chapter of Association of Hazardous Material Professionals. Go to the announcements on the main page or the events page for more details. April 1, 2014 - The Young Professionals Group offers individuals an opportunity to network and meet other people who work in a similar field around the Atlanta area. We have hosted happy hour social events in the past including most recently a joint event with the Georgia Tech AWMA Student Chapter at RA Sushi Bar. We are currently planning a number of other social events throughout the year, and are looking to get the word out to others who might want to join us. What exactly is a young professional? Great question! Anybody who is under the age of 40 qualifies, however, we would love to have you at ANY AGE. March 28, 2014 - The Georgia AWMA is pleased to announce receipt of our third corporate sponsorship for 2014. Environ has signed on for 2014. Thank you Environ for your support! March 21, 2014 - It's official! Georgia Tech now has an approved active chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association falling under the Southern Section. Be on the look out for various events and activities that they will be planning on their own and in conjunction with the Georgia Chapter Young Professionals group! March 6, 2014 - The date for the Spring Regulatory update conference has been locked in for May 1st so mark your calendars! The event will once again take place at the EPA Region 4 HQ offices. March 5, 2014 - The Georgia Tech AWMA student chapter hosted a social happy hour gathering for the GaTech students and local Young Professionals. About 15 members showed up the event and many discussions took place on many topics including profession, AWMA international, and AWM local planning. Of course topics also included a variety of many other subjects! February 25, 2014 - The Georgia AWMA is pleased to announce receipt of our second corporate sponsorship for 2014. AMEC has signed on for 2014. Thank you AMEC for your support! February 14, 2014 - An additional 5 Georgia Tech students have been signed on with the AWMA national organization withe there first years due being paid by the GA chapter. This brings the total student chapter up to 15 members. Officers will soon be chosen for this student chapter and results will be posted here! February 10, 2014 - The Georgia AWMA is pleased to announce receipt of our first corporate sponsorship for 2014. O'Brien and Gere has continued on for 2014 from their sponsorship last year. These sponsorship funds go a long way to running the events during the year and assuring that the chapter can continue to provide annual student scholarships. Thank you O'Brien and Gere for your support! February 6, 2014 - Georgia AWMA's Mr. Thomas Wideman provided a presentation to the student chapter of AEES at Georgia Tech focusing on professional and career development. The presentation also enabled the GA AWMA to reach out to additional students in an effort to fully launch a Georgia Tech AWMA student chapter in the upcoming months. An additional 5 national student memberships were raffled off bringing the total number of student memberships funded in the first part of 2014 up to fifteen. The hope is to have the student chapter petition into the national organization by the end of the month and student officers in place by March. Be on the lookout for future announcements regarding the Georgia Tech AWMA chapter.
